Amman, Oct 5 (IANS) King Abdullah II of Jordan has dissolved the lower house of parliament and ordered new elections, state-run Petra news agency reported. Xinhua said that according to constitutional amendments, which the king endorsed in 2011, the government should resign in one week after the dissolution of the lower house. Current Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh is also expected to resign in a week, it said. The report did not say why the parliament was dissolved. The elections are expected to be held before the end of the year. In Jordan, about three million people are eligible to vote. The largest opposition party, the Islamic Action Front, however, said it will boycott the polls. Several opposition groups will hold a demonstration Friday, calling for cancellation of the elections.
