Manila, Nov 7 (IANS) Unidentified gunmen shot dead a 58-year-old provincial official in the Philippines Sunday, police said. Rafael Viduya, a provincial council member of Surigao del Sur province, was shot dead by two male suspects as he stepped out of a Catholic church after attending Mass in Bislig city in Surigao del Sur around 10 a.m. Sunday, regional police spokesperson Martin Gamba was quoted as saying by Xinhua. Two other male suspects served as look-outs during the killing, Surigao del Sur governor Johnny Pimentel said. Bislig city police chief Ronilo Jauregue said the suspects fled on motorcycles as bystanders rushed Viduya to a nearby hospital. But he was declared dead on arrival. 'It could be personal, political or the handiwork of guerrillas,' the governor told Xinhua. A 100,000 pesos (around $2,300) rewards has been announced for anyone who could provide information leading to the identification and arrest of the perpetrators.
