Munda: I am fine, will soon get back to work

Ranchi, May 12 (IANS) A couple of days after he suffered multiple injuries in a chopper crash, Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda Saturday said he would soon get back to work.

The chief minister, in a video recorded message from a Ranchi hospital, said: "I am fine and will soon get back to work after being discharged from hospital."

Munda Saturday afternoon was shifted from the intensive care unit (ICU) to a private ward of the hospital.

"I am pained with the accident. The wishes and blessings of the people have given me strength to recover. I have to do much work for the three-crore people of the state," Munda said in his message to the people of the state.

A chopper carrying Munda, his wife Meera Munda, BJP legislator Barkuwar Gagrai, security officer Manoj Singh, pilot B.K. Singh and co-pilot Kaushik had crash landed in Ranchi on May 9.

Munda was on his way to Saraikela Kharsawa district to participate in a programme when the helicopter developed a technical snag and returned to Ranchi.

The chopper crash-landed from a height of about 25 feet and toppled over.

Munda sustained injuries in the waist, spine and his right ankle got fractured.

BJP legislator Gagrai was discharged from the hospital Friday, while Munda is likely to stay in hospital for another three-four days.

The condition of the two pilots is stated to be stable.

The Aryanan Aviation chopper Augusta 109, which was carrying Munda and five others, is reportedly 20 years old. In April, the chopper carrying Munda had to make an emergency landing in Jamshedpur after it developed a snag.
