H&R Johnson pumps in Rs.225 crore in Andhra unit

Hyderabad, May 18 May (IANS) H&R Johnson (India), a division of Prism Cement limited, India's largest ceramic tile company, Friday announced the expansion of its manufacturing capacity by 55 percent at the Silica JV unit in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs.225 crore.

The capacity of the unit has gone up from 5.7 million square metres to nine million square metres per annum.

This expansion will help H&R Johnson (India) to consolidate its position as the largest manufacturer and marketer of ceramic tiles in India with overall installed capacity crossing 51 million square metres.

Anoop Sreekumar, senior general manager marketing, H&R Johnson (India), told reporters that the overall investment of the company in Andhra Pradesh has crossed Rs.350 crore.

He said the expansion would enable the company to manufacture large format vitrified tiles. "We will be launching these as Marbonite slabs. We expect the capacity expansion to catalyze the future growth of our business as well as maintain our leadership in capacity, revenue as well as market share in India."

With two units and a cumulative capacity of over 18 million square metres per annum, Andhra accounts for 33 percent of the company's manufacturing capacities.

"Once the Silica JV unit reaches peak production with the new capacities in Q3 of the current fiscal, it will have the potential to generate over Rs.300 crore revenues annually." he said.

During the last fiscal, H&R Johnson (India) revenues crossed Rs.1729 crore, a growth of 18 percent over the previous year. The company expects 30 percent growth during the current fiscal.
