Yangon, May 18 (IANS) The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has offered to provide $144 million aid to Myanmar to implement a three-year project starting 2013, official media reported Friday. Projects cover environmental conservation, upgrading legislative and executive skill and opening of UNDP branch office in Myanmar, said the New Light of Myanmar. The offer was made by visiting UNDP Assistant Secretary-General and Director of Regional Bureau of Asia and the Pacific Ajay Chhibber at a meeting with Myanmar Vice President Sai Mauk Kham in Nay Pyi Taw Thursday, reported Xinhua. UN chief Ban Ki-moon visited Myanmar in April. During the visit, the UN agreed with Myanmar to provide technical assistance and help to mobilize financial support for the country's 2014 population census, the first since 1983.
