Sharmila finishes 37th in Morocco

Agadir (Morocco), March 26 (IANS) Sharmila Nicollet carded a steady one-over 72 in the weather-hit Lalla Meryem Golf Cup to end the week at tied 37th place.

Nicollet, playing her first full season on the Ladies European Tour (LET), and the only Indian on the circuit, had rounds of 75, 71, 70 and 72 as she aggregated four-over 288.

Australian Karen Lunn claimed her tenth LET title Sunday after a tight final round. The 46-year-old seasoned player came from a stroke back going into the final round to finish three clear of Norwegian Marianne Skarpnord and South African Tandi Cuningham.

Nicollet, who is playing only her second LET tournament outside India, started on the tenth tee and birdied the second and 11th hole. She bogeyed the 12th, 18th and ninth, ending at 72.

"It was an excellent experience. The strong winds, the delays and staying calm in the second round when I needed to shoot a good round to make the cut were all a great experience," said Nicollet, who is hoping to play a lot more regularly on the LET.

Nicollet made the LET grabbing the last place in the tough qualifiers in Spain earlier this season.

Lunn, the 1993 British Open champion, won a first prize of 48,750 euros and an ornate silver jewel-encrusted clutch purse. The win also earned Lunn a place in this year's Ricoh Women's British Open and Evian Masters.

For South African Cuningham, her tie for second equalled her career best finish at the 2010 Hero Honda Women's Indian Open.
