Bhopal, March 16 (IANS) Angered by the imposition of 20 percent entertainment tax by the state government, Cable TV operators and multi-system operators in Madhya Pradesh have jointly decided to stop the beaming of any entertainment channels. Cable operators & MSOs associations have stopped the telecast of all entertainment channels from Wednesday, March 14. But all other channels are being aired without any disruption. Cable operators said that the new tax is not tolerable as they are already giving Rs.20 per connection to the government. The associations have conveyed their anger to the state government on their decision to impose entertainment tax, effective from April last year. The operators alleged that the state government had taken the decision under pressure from DTH (direct to home) players. There are nearly 5000 cable operators in the state and more than 400 MSOs. However, there are only four big MSOs in the state. A total of 30,000 people working in the industry are likely to become jobless in case the cable operators shut their shops completely, claimed a member of the cable operator association.
