Himachal likely to get fresh snow in coming weekend

Shimla, Feb 19 (IANS) If you are heading to the hills of Himachal Pradesh this weekend, a fresh spell of snow is likely to greet you.

The weatherman Tuesday forecast more rain and snow later this week.

"Some areas are likely to experience fresh bouts of snow from Feb 22," a meteorological department statement said here.

It said chances of snow in the upper reaches of Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and Chamba districts were high. The mid and low hills would experience rain and thundershowers till Feb 23.

Meanwhile, Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest town in the state with a low of minus 11.5 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperatures in Shimla and Manali were 4.2 degrees Celsius and minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Kalpa, some 250 km from Shimla, saw a night temperature of minus 4.6 degrees Celsius.

Snow could still be seen in Shimla's nearby picturesque resorts Kufri and Narkanda. Popular tourist resort of Manali is also covered under a thick blanket of snow.
