Belgrade, Feb 19 (IANS) The Belgrade villa where the widow of the former Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito has lived for the past 30 years was broken into during a brazen day-time robbery, reported Radio Television Serbia. Jovanka Broz, 88, was home at the time. She, however, did not notice the burglars and did not know she had been robbed until she saw a writing table had been stripped clean of jewellery, money, important personal papers and a valuable sculpture, reported Xinhua. "One or more perpetrators jumped the fence and entered the basement," said Uglesa Stesevic from the Criminal Investigation Department. "We believe this event is the result of carelessness and the poor conditions in which she lives, as the house is in ruins and inadequately secured," said Bojana Pavlovic-Saric, lawyer for the former first lady of Yugoslavia. Pavlovic-Saric has called for round-the-clock security at the villa.
