Delhi Police martyr's kin to get Rs.10 lakh

New Delhi, Feb 16 (IANS) Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar Saturday announced a martyr's fund which would give Rs.10 lakh each to the families of police personnel who die in the line of duty.

The fund would also provide scholarships to children of the deceased personnel.

"Families of police personnel who died while on duty will get Rs.10 lakh and scholarships for their children," Kumar said, on the occasion of the 66th Raising Day function of Delhi Police.

The money would be collected by deducting a day's salary from every person in the force, he added.

Earlier, gazetted police officers had donated one day's salary to the family of Constable Subhash Chand Tomar who died while on duty during the anti-gang rape protests in December last year, an officer said.

Delhi Police has a strength of 83,000.
