'BRICS nations emerging as world's most influential economies'

Aligarh, Feb 13 (IANS) BRICS countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - are emerging as the world's fastest and most influential economies of the 21st century, Brigadier (retd.) S. Ahmad Ali, pro-vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, said here Wednesday.

The pro-vice chancellor said this at the inaugural ceremony of 'BRICS: Synergies and Complementarities', a seminar organised by the Centre for South African and Brazilian Studies.

Shri Prakash, director of the Jamia Millia Islamia's Institute of International Studies, highlighted the proactive approach adopted by the BRICS countries on the international stage.

He said that despite challenges, most of the members in the group have established strong political and economic linkages with the rest of the countries in their region and were playing either leadership or supporting roles to promote regional cooperation.

Henri Carriers, first secretary of the Embassy of Brazil in India, said his country was ready to cooperate with the Aligarh Muslim University in research and academic field.

Prof. Mohammad Gulrez, director of the Centre for South African and Brazilian Studies, termed the rise of BRICS countries as "the manifestation of a rising world order".
