Hi Every body...

I have been a silent member of this forum since long time.
At present we are in gulf and will soon migrate next year.
By going through these discussions I came to know the reality about canada.

I have decided the following strategy for settlement..

1.After Landing I will start looking for any job as it will help us to run the house and save our settlment funds.

2.My husband will try to find the job in his field and at the same time can pursue higher studies in his field.

3. After he gets certified and gets a better job I will enroll myself for canadian certification and start my career from there onwards..

I know this is not as simle as it is to write. But we are ready to adjust with any situation since I think the future will be bright for us and for our son!!

Any senior members ..can you give me any advice on this plan?
What should be the minimum earning to keep the house running?
Please advice..

For two people.....13-1500 pm is good enough for a very basic (survival style) lifestyle in Toronto.
I like your strategy......but remember, whatever you do, DO NOT let your settlement funds start flowing. Life is generally pretty expensive in Canada as compared to the gulf. Once you start spending, you never know, until its too late to apply the brakes.
One of you both can chip in 1500 pm with a survival job. The other can manage to get upgraded / certified in the mean time. I've met several desi's (from the gulf) while travelling in the buses in Missisauga and Toronto, who depleted their settlement funds in 4-6 months of their landing....and they were regretting it badly.
Try to spend in Canada only from what you make in Canada!

Thanks faisal.
I am relieved to know that we can manage if one of us can do the survival job!!
Though I have never taken the responsibility of providing for my family alone..

I have done Masters of Computer Management from Pune University..and 2-3 yrs of IT Exp..Can you tell me how much data entry /Call centres jobs pay? Is typing speed necessary for data entry jobs..

Are call center jobs easy to find w/o experience?
How do I prepare myself?

For call center/data entry jobs, try to take up some course for typing. it may help you.

Data Entry / Call Centre jobs require somthing like 35 wpm as a passing mark. Typing speed is necessary for such jobs, but you are not expected to perform at 60-70 wpm in most of the jobs out there.
Call Centre jobs: Normally you need a reference from your previous job, and a "near" Canadian English accent.
To prepare yourslef, perhaps you should try the software "Typing of the dead"
