Ottawa is sometimes called as the Silicon Valley of Canada. Lots of tech companies are there including giants like Nortel (?), Alcatel, CGI, EDS, etc. Good public transport, % of educated people is more as compared to GTA, not congested like GTA, educated desis, and so on. Keep this city on your radar when looking out for jobs.

Ottawa is right on the border of Ontario and Quebec (on the Ontario side). On the Quebec side, there is a town called Gatineau. So both Ottawa and Gatineau together is referred as Nation al Capital Region NCR). Hundreds of tech companies around NCR. Lots of them doing work (consulting mainly) for the government.

1) Down town congested ?

Do I care ? never been to this place But I have been to SFO , Chicago , and Newyork , And I don't think I have a problem at all,

Also many times we may not even work in Downtown, In that Case like Detroit who cares about downtown
2) guys are terribly bilingual. if you donot kow french , you might offend someone.

How would a guy know If I speak some other language I don't know , He should be dumb to think I offened him when he cannot understand what I say ,

3) other than IT there are no jobs in Ottawa.
That is the whole intention of the thread , If you are talking about Infosys you talk about IT industry , not about the Sudha Murthy Charity issues ,

I know three people who live in Ottawa and they love it!!!!!!

For one, they say that it has a concentration of a lot of erudites and boasts one of the cultured socities of Canada. It is renowned for the Technical jobs but also has a lot of people working for international organizations and the Fed Government. It is true that French fluency makes it easy to integrate in the society but if one wants to do that they do. One of my friends' aunt is with the Federal Gov't and speaks French fluently. Almost everyone knows there how to skii and it is a wonderful passtime to skii during the winters. As said, the more you push yourself to adapt to a society the better it gets for you to enjoy.

I believe the office environment in the Government is great and one gets many perks and holidays. Ottowans has biggest spenders in Canada and almost everyone does a lot of shopping all the year round. The city has a very European feel to it what with its million tulips all around in the seasons!

Though there is not enough going on in Ottawa, I believe it sure does give you a peaceful and calm life provided you have friends and relatives around, otherwise one tends to get lonely in this sleepy town.
