Sponsored immigrants they won't get GIS till they finish 10 yeats.

But OAS they will get. But it won't be much. If you deay getting OAS till 70, you can get more OAS per month.

So see all the permutations & combinations regarding OAS, GIS, age, income, India, Canada etc.

https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/publicpensions/cpp/old-age-security/guaranteed-income-supplement/eligibility.html

Sponsored immigrants:

If you are a sponsored immigrant and you have resided in Canada less than 10 years after age 18, you are not eligible to receive an OAS income-tested benefit (the GIS, the Allowance or the Allowance for the Survivor) during your sponsorship period unless your sponsor:

suffers personal bankruptcy;
is imprisoned for more than six months;
is convicted of abusing you; or
dies.

Non-sponsored immigrants:

If you are a non-sponsored immigrant, you may be eligible to receive the GIS based on the number of years you have resided in Canada after age 18.

If you have lived in Canada for fewer than 10 years since you turned 18, but you have lived or worked in a country that has a social security agreement with Canada, you may be eligible for a partial benefit. Your GIS entitlement will gradually increase with every year that you continue to reside in Canada until you have reached 10 years of residence. For more information, see Lived or living outside Canada

That's where the educated and internet savvy children and grandchildren come in. They should be helping their older senior parents with pensions, medical, healthcare etc.

But most of them don't care and senior and elder abuse takes place.
They are only interested in their property, money and inheritance and waiting for it.

Thank you FH for valuable information, that means if I am not mistaking then my parents are eligible for pension plan for India...correct? My father had a small shop and my mother was a housewife and never worked.

Thank you

"RBO" You are here in Canada. Your Parents are now herewith you. Being in an affluent country and you being very knowledgeable you are able to find out what you can do to help your Parents and improve upon their life style. You having been on this website and being able to meet with a lot of researchers and get to know the best there is and the best there will be, you are a winner. That puts you in the top 10. Some of the newer things that you come to know are there and have been known to a few there in India.

But we living here in Canada are able to interpolate and help you derive all the benefits that your Parents can derive out of all of this treaties and agreements and get the best out of all of this information that we have at our finger tips and get you into a comfortable zone to get started. AND that is not all.

We in Canada also consider a family should stay ABOVE the POVERTY LEVEL and for doing this, they provide Subsidized housing and all of the other subsidies to go with it. So, please don't stop there. There are people who run the SOCIAL SERVICES and they will delve deeper into it and get a few more benefits for them to get by here after they come back and look for a place to live.

So, get started on this right now and be on top of it. That will help them even better.

Good Luck.

FH.
