What? This is news to me that Indian Police don't have a 'free hand' already.
Yes, it is ... police has free hand only for common people but they can't touch mafia or industrial without white topy permission
I was very active in politics and i know how they miss use police,,,
few of SP/DSP we used to party and i know from my personal experience that those guys are strong , daring and very smart ( few crook exception are there)
Most of the officers want to curb the crime but they can't do much because of pressure from topi's ( u heard so many time : Uppar Se Order Nahi Hai )

What you are speaking of is a minuscule of cases ..... which may be high profile.
In more than 90% of cases , burglary , rape , murder etc. they don't have political interference and still they do not do their job.
Yes when it comes to bribe and holding trucks on the side for money , they are the first ones ....... Nirbhaya rape case - and there may be hundreds like that ...including the ones with rape-in-the-car cases . the Bus / vehicles drove through several police check posts and were not stopped even once....
Indian Police are extremely corrupt - that is why people do not trust them .... This is the norm - what you are stating is an exception.
