Wonder why such things don't happen here ... Law enforcement ...
Law enforcement is absent in India and it emboldens the criminals ..
Such things do happen over here as well..not only here, every where in the world. This is such a crime where victim carries the guilt of criminality. The overall attitude needs to be changed. Criminal, not the victim should make feel guilty. Whoever commits such henious crime should be exposed...exposed over linked in, facebook, twitter...make him feel guilty. Everyone should be lookiung at him as criminal and not the one who was victim. but we are far from there. There are other elements who also could take disadvantage of such things to take revenge.

The mill property is a prime real estate which is in court right now due to ownership issues. So no one gives a damn about it till the ruling comes.
Many of the criminal's parents have got birth certificate made (by bribing) that says they are below 16 or 18 yrs old. The parents knew what their sons were upto. Currently lot of parents in the slums in Mumbai are getting the birth certificate made that shows their sons are minors though they are 20+ in age.
Our legal/judicial system needs a complete overhaul. Anyone can get a bail. I am surprised that these criminals did not get a bail, probably due to public pressure. Else they would have come out on bail and start harassing the victim and her family.

huh , why surprised ? these things (particularily with women) been happening for ages, ours is a rotten culture . We were wrongly taught to be proud of our values (when young and naive). Since my puberty I been searching for values in our culture that makes sense. Except the social pressure (or baap ka danda) to complete the education degrees (by hook or crook) and condemation of high school dropping , I personally see no and No other good value in indian setup. prove me wrong, I am upping my sleeves...

I fully Agree with San-hugo. Unfortunately, it is reality ..A false value system was built which many does't want to accept. The main culprits are illiteracy, too much population, unemployment and poverty. There is no quick solution .... it will be a long long way to see the improvements if the system is cleaned which is possible only if there are honest politicians at the apex .... soon laws are going to be amended so that even supreme court can't stop goons in the jail contesting in the elections.

Not that I am happy about the encouragement of expressing such thoughts, but through criticism we improve ( but traditionally, criticism of rules set by elders/pundits/mullas/gurus/outdated books are banned in my beloved India )
Well, I have been to even poorer countries (e.g, east European clans), people are not so educated or are just about meeting ends but they do not spit around, litter , they keep their surroundings clean. Hygiene and human safety is paramount and taught by mothers to kids. Respect for women and seniors imbibed . Seen plentiful of Honesty and truthfulness and do not take short routes to complete a job. I attended marriages in remote villages in europe & NA ( out of my interest to reach out to cultures), Discovered that there exists civilized way of celebrating, drinking no matter excessive, dancing and respecting Whereas in our culture kids grow with imbibed thoughts that some humans are inferior in society, some are more close to god than others, arrogance is a fair conduct, public property is to be abused, touching feets & suffixing 'jee' to a names completes the duties of being respectful and loving.
We are the most educated lots in whole world but our conduct and priorities continue to degrade. clearly books do not teach everything. Our ancestors were the illogical rigid SOBs , so are we. So much that we are infesting some part of Canada as well.
