Yes, Mohd. Rafi was a big part of Shammi Kapoor's success and appeal.
Mohd. Rafi was to Shammi Kapoor what Mukesh was to his brother Raj Kapoor.

Shammi Kapoor. May his soul rest in peace.
I too grew up watching and enjoying each of his movies. Loved Teesri Manzil, Brahmachari, Kashmir Ki Kali, Janglee, Andaz, Vidhata, etc. Go for his movies if you want a clean and light hearted affair coupled with the dance moves that was even envy of any actress during his times.
He was the gem of Hindi cinema. One of it's kind where you would only look at him graciously alongwith his moves, regardless of any beautiful/pretty actress that accompanied him on screen. You almost forget the surroundings on screen when he is upto his antics. Such was his persona, style, and screen presence. His dance moves unmatched for any actor of his times. His natural acumen for acting even stood him out among his contemporaries.
Each and every movie of his also boasted of the highly popular and melodious songs, such as Tumne mujhe dekha, Is rang badalti duniya mein, Akele akele kahan ja rahey ho, Ehsaan tera hoga mujhpar, Deewana hua badal, Deewana mujhsa nahin, Kisi na kisisey kahin na kahin, Janam janam ka saath hey, etc. Mohd. Rafi was known as his voice, and when Mr. Rafi passed away, Shammi was known to say that his voice was lost. You can't imagine any other actor filming all those melodious and foot-thumping numbers with such an ease and style. He was truly an icon and as seen from the interviews was a completely down to earth and humble human being. May his soul rest in peace.
Shammi jee. You'll be missed.

DELHI INDIAN
I quickly looked up some of Shammi Kapoor's earlier, less well known hits.
Shows a completely different aspect than his "yahoo" image, which became famous later.
