Hi Biomed,
If so many of you feel it then there is probably some truth to it. I can only say that I have never experienced it myself. Salary or otherwise.
I have noticed that desi immigrants, though good at their work, do not market how well they do their jobs. This maybe another reason for the salary discrimination. I have noticed that in bigger companies soft skills influence career growth to a large extent. I am not claiming that you or anyone you know is lacking in any skills, I'm just putting forth another point to be considered. WhenI was back in India soft skills were never a big factor and good work got noticed. Whereas out here I have had to market the good work that I am doing and basically let people know that I can play the game as well as anybody else.

I agree with Jake on this one. Here, it is not only important to do your job well but also get noticed and be visible. You need to market your achievements - blow your own trumpet. People accept a minimum level of quality here and if you go beyond, you need to ensure that your superiors know about it.
Honestly, I can't say that I have not faced any discrimination. But on the whole I would say it is probably the least that you would find in a country other than India. In India, it all comes down to who you know.
As far as going back to India is concerned, I believe its a personal decision.
Thanks a lot for the feedback.. I am sure it will help me a lot.
Regards
Biomed

I do not think that there is any discrimination, either in job or in salary. It is simply the way we see it. for salary, at the back of our mind, we always carry the multiplication factor of 30 ($x30 rs.) and then when it comes to salary negotiations, we accept what is offered, has anyone tried negotiating salary ? i have, and at all times, it pays ! One advise: throw away that conversion factor from your mind, think that you are worth than the company thinks about you and you will never lose your offer becoz of Salary negotiations , keep this three things in mind and you will get what u want !

It can be true for the person who is a new immigrant but the person who is living out of India for 18 years that X30 is not there.
