Based on my standard of living (AC in house, Esteem on a 3 yr lease) i calculate that if my salary is 75K per month before tax i will save 20k per month ($570)
At 1800/31000 i will break even.
I have another contact who said that i should contact him after landing he will get me something between 35 and 40k
At 36k it will be 2480 which will be better and i may get upto my standard in India and a little better with no savings.
The contact also said once i have 6 months experience he can get me a Field service engineer job which will pay 45-55k
At 48k it will be 3169pm which will get me on par with india and some savings.
My present company pays 65-72k to people of my type of experience and i may get that if i stick there for 6-18 months once i am there
I am not joining him because i will have a option to come back to india if i dont like the place which my present company is offering.

Live and Let Live
Hi Chittesh,
I think it is a good move. Yes, the salary is low, though. I also second rp_099's suggestions, especially posting your resume on monster & workopolis. It was rp_099 who suggested this to me as well, and even though I had applied to a number of jobs before coming to Canada, the job that I landed was with my present employer looking at my resume on monster.ca and contacting me, and conducting telephonic interviews before I landed in Canada (ok, it helped that I was in US then)
I was thinking of Toronto at first (spent a couple of weeks there), and although I was also looking at Calgary, I never thought of Vancouver at all! Now I feel that it was for the best since Vancouver is so much better than Toronto (and Calgary as well, I'm sure)!
There are quite a few recruiting companies in Calgary, but most jobs seemed to prefer local addresses. So, keep trying as soon as you land in Canada, and be sure to post your resume. You never know when the right opportunity will knock! In addition to Calgary, you can also look at Edmonton and Vancouver.
All the best!!
Yo Chittesh
$31K is paid to clerks here. Is it some desi firm that wants to rip you or what.
You are better off in India

O Canada....
how about moving to yellowknife NT or whitehorse YK where provincial govt actually returns most part of the rent as tax benefits. i used to work in yellowknife once. if you want to change job, you can easily find one with ssimicro.com or northwestel or good provincial job.
It is in the middle of no where

Hello Chittesh,
5) Dont worry about any discrimmination. You are always worth what you yield. And frankly I have never seen any discrimination. you need to know the basic ways and behaviour of folks in NA.
