Central Industrial Security Force officials, manning security at the Indira Gandhi International airport, allegedly thrashed an NRI and Canadian passport holder on Monday night.
Shamsher Singh, a Toronto-based petrol-pump owner and native of Nawa Shehar in Punjab, was beaten up because he did not have a sticker notifying the date of journey on his passport. The incident took place around 9 pm while Singh was going through a security check for an Air Canada flight to Toronto.
According to sources, there was a scuffle between the passenger and the CISF officials. The police registered a case of assault against the CISF officials at the IGI airport police station. CISF sub-inspector Ram Niwas has been suspended. However, no arrests have been made so far.
"A badly bruised Singh could not take the flight. He had to be taken to the Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination and is recuperating," said a source.
