I have the casstte from the old chalte chalte and the music is really good. some of my fav songs. Hard to l believe it is Bappi lahiri. disco dancer was good too.

Bappi Lahiri was always good in 70s. Listen to Aap Ki Khatir, Lahu Ke Do Rang, Apne Paraye, Zakhmee and likes. It is only with "Pyaar Ki Gaadi Tez Chalao" and "Zompadi Mein Charpai", that he took a turn to worse. Public somehow likes such songs, and that gave him a false sense of supremacy

The only good albums he gave in 80s were Sharaabi, Namak Halal and Aitbaar.

How abt Saaheb...pyar bina chain kahan re, yaar bina chain kahan re
Dance Dance and the evergreen Disco Dancer (not that those were original songs in any way)

Originality in music is a highly overrated and elusive concept.
Everything is inspired from some or the other source in music.

Even the great music composers of the 50s and 60s drew inspiration from western classical songs as well as our own traditional folk songs.

For instance, a lot of Naushad Ali's tunes from the 50s and 60s are based on northern folk songs.

Salil Chowdhry's composition from Madhumati ("dil tarap tarap ke keh raha hai" ) pictured on Dilip Kumar and Vajaintimala is actually based on a Hungarian folk song.

Also, Salil's famous song from award winning Do Bigha Zameen ("Mausam beeta jai" ) was actually the marching notes of the Russian Red Army those days.

In Bengali, Rabindranath Tagore drew a lot of his inspirational songs from Hungarian folk songs.
I once found a web site that listed the corresponding Hungarian songs for some of the Tagore's songs.

A Google search might turn it up again, although it's been a few years.

I see no problem in deriving new music from traditional music - of course, Bappi Lahiri stretched the limits of "inspiration" :D

Like Mithun is dancing to a song "Jesus..jesu bless us.." or something like that in Disco Dancer...and voila..the next song we have is :.....
Krishna..dharti pe aaja tu !...I mean this was ridiculous...they even put the song, that was plagiarized, in the movie :D...and what does BappiLahiri do when "Thoda resham lagta hai ..is added as a remix"...he goes and files a suit and he ACTUALLY WINS IT :D :D

I think the US authorities are on crack cocaine !
