I agree that you should not spend so much time in trying to live frugally that it becomes a big chore. You'd rather spend that time thinking about how to make more money.
At the same time, it does not make sense spending a hundred bucks on something when you know its available for 75 bucks somewhere else close by. So I get the gist of OIAC's original post. And in that spirit, here are my tips.
1) Watch movies on Tuesdays. A cinema that charges $12 or $13 only charges $8 on Tuesdays. (I certainly would not give up watching movies to live frugally)
2) Get something like an AirMiles card. I know it sound like a pain if you don't have one already and an unncessary hassle. That's how I felt before I got it. But now, its become second nature to use it whereever I fill up my car or buy groceries or spend on my credit card which is connected to this card. And it takes no work from my behalf other than carrying the card.
The points do collect slowly however what I appreciate is that without doing any extra work, I can now get a free roundtrip ticket to Vancouver. or an IPOD or something.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas.
Please keep them coming.
Here is another one I thought of: bank fees.
Choose a bank that does not charge a monthly fees, like PC Financial.
Banks are the biggest rip off kings here.
First of all we give them our hard earned money, then they pay us peanuts as interest and then charge more as fees.
BlueLobster, did you mean the AirMiles card that is used at Shell gas stations and Dominion grocery store?
