Ranking of University of Saskatchewan?

Hi!!

I am doing masters in Chemical Engineering in USASK. My research is in the field of fluidization, as saskatchewan is virtually cut-off from rest of canada (very few ppl come here). Please inform me what are the chances of securing a job with PR and a MSc degree in chem engg. secondly, what reputation USASK enjoys in canada especially in ontario area.

Pankaj..please refer to the sticky thread on this part of the forum... Reputation of a university has little or no effect on whether you secure a job or not.

Will this affect your immigration process ? Nope

The Immi authorities need to know that you have a Masters degree. Once they know that its all Bindaas..they dont care where you did that degree from, as long as its from a Canadian or equally recognized university abroad. USASK should serve your purpose.

For jobs..I am afraid you will have to turn to that god-forsaken province called Alberta .... However, you stand a better chance (but not guaranteed) to get a job if you have a PR status. Your other option would be to come down to the USA for a Ph.D (mainly from universities in Texas)...and then you can easily hunt for jobs here. !

Thanks for the reply ottawa_nerd, I am working on a good project, which involves few months training in industry also and I have secured financial support for 3 yrs if I continue in USASk, but the problem is that for that I will have to pursue PhD here. Its fine upto PhD but what after that?

I am not very hopefull of securing a job in my relevant field even with a PR status and I am talking this by reviewing the status of my seniors, who are either unemployed and doing labor jobs or are just continuing in the university and the university ppl didnt seem to mind because they are getting cheap labor as nobody wants to come here in this cold hell.

and getting financial aid in USA is no guarantee these days, so I am just in a fix. I have 78% average in MSc, I dont know how to convert it to GPA out of 4.

Pankaj, as I said..contact a few professors in Texas...Funding or no funding depends on them... I can empathize with your situation. I had friends from Calgary. They were PR's and yet were not able to secure jobs in their field of work. As a result they went back home and the last I heard..they were doing their PhD in IIT Kanpur !

Your best bet is to take ur GRE and get a good enuff score. Then apply to those universities. Meanwhile...please take ur PR status....It can help you at least to apply for a US student visa while staying in Canada. Otherwise, you will have to travel to India for your visa.

The stuff that you are doing right now; i.e., industrial training can help u in your getting admission ....in the USA

All desis with a Canadian degree have preety much gained proper employment. I have met a few.

It is only the Desis with Indian Degrees who are having a problem .

In our company in Alberta, we have University of Saskathewan guys , both Desi and goras.
