Hello desis
This site is a valuable resource for Canadian desis and to be Canadian desis...
I have already received visa and I'll land shortly.I have done Mechanical Engineering and MBA from good Indian universities.i have two years experience in line of Mechanical Engineering (Quality systems) and three years experience in Marketing/sales of telecom products and services.
from the inputs received so far it appears that building a career in marketing 'd be tough as compared to career in the line of engineering after taking into account the realities of my being a family man with Indian experience and qualifications hardly recognized in Canada..
My experience in the line of quality engineering in steel industry is about five years old now because of 2 years of MBA and three years post MBA experience . My wife is a pharmacy graduate but her experience in her line is not recent like mine as she did not continue job after marriage..both of us r hard working and are ready to take entry level jobs in our field... Though it is tough to bear that our Indian qualifications and skill sets are not transferable as such to Canada...
Anyhow most of the landed immigrants start in situations similar to ours.... we are aware of credential evaluation/ licensing process but initially we 'd like to do jobs in order to be financially support sponsorship of our parents and education later...once parents come here we 'd be in a better position to upgrade studies and parents can look after children, while we upgrade ourselves...
What kind of entry level jobs r available in our fields..
Where can we find volunteer work options related to our fields..
How do they compare with other jobs that may be high paying vis truck driving, taxi etc..
the option of building on the entry level job experience and supplementing it with educational qualifications seems to be the solution..but what do we do in order to realise it...
new desi on the block
