Hi All,

I am a s/w Process Consultant with about 5 yrs exp.
My skills include - CMM, CMMI, s/w auditing, process compliance checks..etc
Right now I am with one of the big 5 s/w comps...and am based in Bangalore
I received my landing papers and my visa expires in March 2005.
I really do not want to lose this opportunity.

I have absolutely no clue as to what the prospects are for s/w Process consultants in Canada. I have checked out a few sites...but I did not come across any companies that recruit s/w process folks. Frankly, I dont even think companies out there have heard about CMM, CMMI & 6 sigma :-)
It would be great if you guys who are currently working in s/w companies in Canada could gimme an idea about the prospects for my kind of profile. I am looking to network with folks like Makapao76 who are already into the s/w scene in Canada. I would also like to get your personal mail ids if you dont mind.

Makapao76...dude if you see this post...please do respond. I saw some of your posts...and I believe you have the right attitude.

Guys, I need help and I hope you can provide me with some.

:-)
Mickey

Your analysis is right. Companies here might never have hearn anything you are talking about.

Canada is not a technology creator, but a user and no real software development takes place here.

You can imagine the situation after seeing Canadian taking proud of "CorelDraw" which was developed in Canada almost 15 years ago, and they still have nothing else to take proud off!

I am not sure what companies like Mastec or TCS or InfoSys are doing in Canada. They do have offices and might be doing some work - you might try your luck there.

Quality is a BIG, very BIG thing for Canadians to achieve!

I think you may want to contact some big consulting companies for your skills. Why don't you visit workopolis.com and punch in some of your Key skills. I was able to get a hand full of results.

Garvo said is right. Mickey I was also in your position, I was working for leading software comp in India. Got carried away when my PR came. Though I have no regrets now but I had to struggle a lot to get reconciled to realities of Cananda. Trust me if you have good job in IT in India, you will make lot more money than what you make here. However lifestyle, standard of living is much better here. So, its kind of trade off. You choose what you want. Life is not as rosy as it looks in Hollywood movies. Make an informed decision and stick with it.....thats all we can say.

Thanks guys.

I was also flirting with the idea of taking 2 months leave...going to Canada...complete the PR procedure...and get back to my job here in Bangalore. Then I could apply for Canadian jobs sitting here in India...continuing with my existing job. This was actually suggested to me by my immigration agent. And I think this is a good idea. But the only question is..."Will I get 2 months leave?" :-(

Guys...what do you think of this option. ?
Please do lemme know. Also...is 2 months sufficient to get the PR status?...or do I require more time.

:-)
Mickey

I am also Software Quality Professional ( Expereince in CMM/ ISO 9000 etc.) working with leading Multinational software company in New Delhi. I should get my Canadian Visa in next 6 months. Can anyone suggest me how can I start doing job hunting from Delhi itself.

Currently I am comfortablly placed in my job and wold like to work on the same plateform in Canada also.

Can anyone suggest me how I should be better prepared for Canada Job Market.
