Tranquiliser has highlighted a very important paradigm shift taking place in the job market. This is a recent phenomenon and promises to be of crucial significance as far as job skill requirement of future immigrants is concerned.

The following are some of my thoughts-

*The North American economies are service-oriented (65% of US GDP comes from service industry as compared to less than 20% for a typical developing country). The importance of manufacturing sector is gradually diminishing and with it the market for conventional engineering and technical jobs. Fortunately or unfortunately even the US President is helpless in putting a stop to outsourcing.

*All the multinationals have critical R&D done in their home countries. They do have labs in other countries but these can best be described as quality control labs. Hardly any earth-shaking innovation has ever come out from these 'secondary' labs. The same was true for software development. The most critical software was developed in the 'home' country and peripherals were outsourced. I am given to understand that it is slowly changing but I am not sure. In short, the innovations would be controlled from here.

*The mining activity, by its very nature, cannot be outsourced. In this respect Canada is favourably placed (what with Alberta oil reserves second only to Southy Arabia, rapidly becoming diamond capital of the world, one of the top-ranking producer of copper and nickel etc.). Mining engineering and associated technical vocations would flourish. In fact, there is already a shortage of these skills.

*Another business that is going to flourish is that of capital market-especially expertise in foreign investing. As the real growth is going to take place in emerging markets, the fund managers would have to invest outside to survive. The Research Analysts operating in emerging markets would be controlled from here. Therefore, fund management, asset management etc. skills would be in high demand.

Long term scenario in the developed world is akin to a zamindar benefiting from the labour of others. So desis brace yourself up to face the new reality.

also the canadian work force use least brain and work on set patterns.
once the system is setup they work only on those basis in recorded monotonous style. it is nothing more than rubber stamp work wherever you go, let it be bank, service provider , stores , any public service organization. it is difficult to find solution if things are beyond these setups.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

If you think the import business is so profitable, get into it, what's stopping you!

Well,
that is reality. perhaps canada is the only place in the west that you have been to. it is the same way in the US and a lot of other european goods. China is responsible for close to 60-70% manufacturing.
