Hello respected members,

I'm in the process of moving to Mississauga from the US and looking for information on accommodation, safe neighbourhoods etc. My work location is near Hurantorio St / Milverton Dr.

My primary questions are:

1. What are some of the areas I can look at for renting a 2 BR, 1.5/2 Ba apartment? Will this be an overkill for a family of 3?
2. What's the current rent range for (1)? Is lease term 1 yr or shorter duration is available?
3. Anything specific I need to be aware of while renting? Any specific rental websites that you recommend or should I reach out to an agent? If so, is there anyone you recommend in the area?
4. How is the public transport in Mississauga - can I survive without a car?
5. How does credit history work in Canada, in general?

Any information is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

1. Depending on the age of the kid. 1 BR will be enough. Otherwise 2 BR. Generally $ 300 difference in rent between the two.

2. Usually its 1 yr lease. Short term sub-lease might be there, but 1 year is standard for regular lease.

3. Only give first and last month rent. NO security deposit or any other fees can be charged. Only first and last month lease is legal in ON.

Water and Heat is always included in the price, so don't pay extra for that. Electricity might or might not be included. Most don't include electricity in the rent and you have separate sub metered hydro meters now for each apt.

4. Public transit is pretty good if you live in the North - South - Hurantario St corridor. Luckily your house is there. No Metro aka Subway in Mississauga, but bus transit is pretty good.

Check Mi-Way Transit website for bus route, frequencies. As far as possible keep it to 1 bus to and fro from work. if you have to change buses and take 2-3 buses to work, winter will be a nightmare.

5. Have an Amex card from US. Credit history is worldwide for that, so you will get Amex Canadian Credit card easily. US Visa and MC credit history won't transfer to Canada, so you are starting from scratc.

try the apartments on intersection of Glen Erin and Aquitaine. School is close by. Lake is beautiful in summer
