We are coming to Toronto from Upstate Newyork. We don't have a place to stay yet. Can you suggest a place with strong Indian community. My husband will be working in toronto downtown. So a place accessible to Subways would be good. Would appreciate any of your feedback.
I guess Missisauga is nice desi area but downtown toronto is bit long to commute..but still i would suggest to settle in this area...as u will have all desi community around and will feel comfortable.

Swati2000,
As far as commuting to downtown and staying in a good desi neighbourhood is concerned I would suggest Etobicoke. You can take a bus to Kipling station and downtown is just 30 mins away by subway.
Rents range from 800 to 1200 and there are convenience stores and an indian store as well . Schools are plenty.
Hi Swati,
Once again on the same subject, I would say Brampton, Mississauga, Malton & Markham are some of the places with strong Indian community presence. However, if your husband has to work in down town, then the driving would take too much of time because of heavy traffic and these places are not well connected by transit system for going to down town except for GO train service which has train service mostly for peak times and is available only from Markham and Mississauga.
An alternate area would be Scarborogh (Agincourt) and it also has a strong Indian Community presence and it well connected to downtown with both TTC and GO train service. Go train, though a little costly but may prove to be the best alternative to driving to downtown. The only draw back is that downtown itself is a big area and the GO train goes only to one stop which is the Union Station, close to CN Tower. Otherwise the subway system is also quite good and accessible.
