When I go from Cochin to Chennai, My flight ticket varies from Rs 2000 to Rs 4000 (C$ 45-90). Edmonton to Fort Mac is the same flying time and it is around $ 238 minimum. Petrol is so cheap in Canada and airline wages are almost the same. Landing charges are huge in India.

This is pure rip off and not allowing Canadians to travel easily by flight from Edmonton - Fort Mac.

May be the local MP can help.

I saw that 435 kms is the distance between the 2 cities. Fort mac is more isolated than I thought.

OTOH, Toronto to Ottawa is just 350 kms and I remember the road trip that I took in 2011. It took me 6 hours to reach ottawa (one way). I took 30 mins rest for every one hour of driving and I was exhausted.

May be you can use the extra money to fly to Edmonton or Calgary to loosen up. Stay in Fort Mac for 2 more years. Once oil crosses $ 60, you will have much better oppertunities.

All the best.

Murali

Road is mostly 4 lane and it takes 5 hour drive which includes 15 min. Fuel make up and nature's call break.

You can still keep on trying and hopefully when the time s right , you might get a job in Edmonton for lesser difference.

Keep on making hay till the sun shines , once you have saved a million or a couple of them , you can shift to Edmonton...

So you make 200K in Fort Mac and were offered $160K in Edmonton ...Wow man , good for you , you are the epitome of a successful immigrant !! :)

Good Luck

You made a good decision. Hope you also find people with similar problem and will be in a good position to tell them, that a long time ago, it happened to you too and got over it.

The best part is that Fort Mac and Whole of Alberta is an ice box six to nine months of the year. Driving during the winters is no fun and you know it too. In TEN years you can salt away Half a Mil into TFSA and retire anywhere you want after that, plus any other pension that you will be entitled to will make a GREAT Retirement. A Million bucks in retirement will go a long way and most of us do not have that luxury to enjoy such a rich life. You can also provide a good education to your daughter after she completes her Secondary Education. All of these come gradually as time progresses. You being the bread winner should maximize your potential right from the start.

You came to the right group who provide you with unbiased opinion and the majority of the people are in your side.

That is a plus.

It is a very wise decision, once again..Great going.

FH.

Thanks febpreet , TK , San Hugo , dimple , lemon , rajcanada , fido and all other CDs who shared their analysis and adviced me to take imp.decision .
Due to wild fire and mandatory evacuation I got chance to experience life in Edmonton and calgary .Sure there are lots of things to do in big cities but not at the cost of 40k , sure if it was GTA I would have decided to move without any hesitation .

Thanks Full House for showing me optimistic future . About TFSA account I am putting maximum amount $5500 every year so it want be 1/2 mil but sure my bank balance I am expecting to be reach 1 mil mark in 10 years .

Yes If I have money in hand then I can settle any warmar place like Toronto in future .

Thanks to all CDs for your encouraging words / views to stay at my current location as it is depressive to pass harsh winter at this location but I am getting used to it now and sure it is not for life time.

Thanks FIDO .

Yes I am able to make almost 200 k and my new offer was of ~ 130k .

If I can save million then I will move to GTA not Edmonton . Edmonton is same as Fort Mac in terms of weather .
