Please google and find out.
Kijiji and CD classifieds are the best.
Temp accomodation can be a portion in a house, serviced rooms (like in a hotel) etc.. See if any college / university offers their hostels for rent (you will get a phone, mail box, continetal breakfast, laundry etc...This will work out very cheap)
Mid Nov. will be freezing hell. Just make sure that the temp. accomodation that you choose has a bus stop or subway station nearby.

Madam,
No one will spoon feed you.
You need to find out yourselves based on our tips. We have very few members from Calgary.

Canada is a safe place. No need to worry about safety in any place in Calgary.

As I said before, google. You are coming in peak winter. Stay close to the subway staion. As you have 1 year old baby and may be coming from Gulf, the baby will feel the difference in temperature from 50 deg. cent to - 30 deg. cent.. So bundle up.

Yeah. If university is letting out its hostels, it will allow families. Or try some private cheap accomodations. Ask in a mail or call them and find out their facilities. Canada is trying hard to get people to rent so if you have cash, you are the king here.

As far as possible try not to trust desi's. They will talk so sweetly but then ask you to join in Amway or qickstar or primerica.

Chinese provide the cheapest services (not necessarily the best)

@Nimajo - Calgary is very safe place, I have personally lived there for close to a year. First winter take apartment in downtown, snow is cleared promptly and easier to walk and better connectivity. I used to stay in Timbercreek apartment (http://www.timbercreekcommunities.com/find-your-home/calgary), the apartment is clean but rent is slightly on higher side. There is a Indian grocer downstairs (speaks Hindi/Punjabi) downstairs.

There is also a apartment on 7th Ave which is mostly Indians very close to C-Train station. Most of the downtown is connected by +15 and there is a garden in TDI mall with kids play area. Shoppers Drug Mart is close by, for proper indian grocery shopping you need to go North East.

After initial stay in downtown and once you are comfortable, you can then decide to move any place you like. I personally liked to stay in SW as it was less crowded.

i) Myself and my husband, both having experience in Oil & Gas field. So is it good that we'll move to Calgary than to follow the crowd to GTA?

ii) Is it easy to get a surviving job in Calgary compared to Toronto?

iii) If coming to Toronto, pls. suggest a place to settle as we don't have any idea, also we don't have friend/relatives to discuss with.

iv) Is cost of living is less in Calgary- as I read it many articles??

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

First of all, you need to be specific and provide details about the oil and gas experience that you have. O&G is a very vast and diversified area, from IT, engineering, operations, manufacturing, logistics, procurement and what not. Please note there are no oil production in and around Calgary. They are all way up in the north in Fort McMurray. Calgary is a corporate head quarters for O&G companies and the jobs in Calgary are mainly support / service oriented like IT, engineering etc. If your O&G experience is in the support area, then Calgary will be a better option for you.

Currently, due to low oil prices, the job market in Alberta, Calgary in particular is very bad, in a recession mode to say. There are way too many layoffs happening and unemployment rate is high. No body knows how long this is going to last, and the predictions are oil need to be at least $80 and above.

The safety, desi presence is all good in Calgary and the cost of living is more or less the same as Toronto. You can make your decision based on these.

All the best to wherever you decide to move.
