Sajmad,
Also please warn your daughter (in case she comes to Canada) to keep away from over friendly desi's who are friendly from Day 1. They may want your daughter to join in Amway Quikstar or sell Primerica insurance which is basically MLM and you will start to spend money and waste time on this.

Just ask her not to associate with those kinds of friends. Also they will call your daughter to the nearest Tims and then over coffee, try to do MLM marketing.

Once a black guy tried to recruit me for Amway..LOL..I asked him to get lost.

He himself was fooled by someone else, maybe a DESI..LOL & was now trying to recoup is losses by trying to find other victims..ha ha..What nonsense ;)

She might & WILL have a Boy Friend once she comes here. 4 yrs alone on the campus away from your family can be quite lonely. You should be OPEN to that !

So you should be aware of her getting Westernised & should be OK with it. Initially she will TRY to hide it from you as you are STRICT Desi parent's, but you will eventually find out.

It could be a DESI born & brought up over here , or it could be a GORA also. Not trying to be racist, but I know a desi girl who was sent to US for education, who is married to a Black Guy on campus ( nothing wrong with that ).

But her Desi parent's are NOT too happy about it & their whole family makes fun of them ( wrongly ). But Desi's are LIKE THAT ONLY NA ..ha ha :)

Adam,
I think we will leave that for Sajmad sir to decide for himself.
When I was in Canada, I could see a lot of Muslim women and families, in Burkah and doing their normal duties. They will not be in Canada, if they beleive that Canada will intimidate them or ask them to be converted into Christianity.
I am sure that Sajmad sir knows this.
We will leave that worry to him and only objectively answer his queries.
I know that your statement was for warning him about the evils of this society but then we should not assume certain personal things.

Hope my point will be well taken and Adam, I have much respect for you and I also hope that you will not take me to task for my statement.

Just on a side note wanted to share a very interesting incident that I came across. There was a couple (without any children) who immigrated to Canada in 2002 July. Husband was a professional and wife a very rich housewife (of India). Husband did not get job and so he was studying for his certification. Every day in the morning, he used to go to Humber college library with a packed lunch and study till evening.
Wife made friends with the house owner's son (they were living in the basement of the house owner's house). The house owner introduced Quikstar to them. Both the wife and the house owner son used to travel together for getting new clients and they fell in love. Husband sort of guess it and they had frequent fights. In one fight, he hit his wife with his slipper and she had to put 7 stiches. Wife said that she was waiting for her sister to get married in India. Once that was done, she divorced and married the house owner's son. They have a child. Husband turned into a professional, got a job in USA and married. Now he has returned to Canada and is in a good job.

So you donot know where life will take you.

My desi friends tried to enroll me in Amway on two separate incidents. One of my friend called me and said he has invited his friend for a seminar on career options. Turned out be Amway, just Amway! It was a pure lie that it is about career options to make me come to the seminar. I have also listened to their tapes that they use to brainwash (or motivate) to keep going in this kind of business because it will become kind of boring and you will see lot of rejections and you will question why you are doing this, etc. It is not illegal to do Amway, it is legitimate. No one sue you over this.... LOL....I also went to their power seminars where they have their most successful people, some of them are like doctors and CAs who are doing this as their side business. May be they pitch it to their clients and rope them in. They tell you stories like if your car got scratched, will buy a new car (because that much money is being generated by their downlines). Easy of them, I thought. I am not cut out for this, so I never joined.

Some of my desi friends from school, college and place of work had love marriage, some could never get married, some got divorced, all others had arranged marriage!

All this happened in a country full of desis called INDIA at least 12 to 16 years ago.

What has this to do with this thread, I wonder....!

Raj,
I guess all this has to do with over enthusiatic desi's who have very less work in India / Canada and who want to advice a person asking a simple query on the possible outcomes that can happen (something which the OP has not asked or may not even appriciate it).

Thanks for bringing it to our notice and we will try to be more careful in the future, so as not to give unsolicited advice.

Murali
