New Immigrant,
Let me speak based on my experience. I had lived in Canada for 9 years before leaving Canada 4 years back.
Looks like both of you will find jobs only in downtown. That is the best bet. But the problem is that apartments for $ 800 or less rent will be very dirty in Toronto downtown plus the school will not be good as children will belong to the poorer strata of the society.
Next option is to live near a subway where the subway will take you to down town in 30 mins max. and children can go to school. But this will work only when the kids are over 12 years old because that is when they can go and come back and stay at home alone.
So how old are you kids.
I used to live in Old Dundas street where a basement is around $ 800 / month now (4075 old Dundas street). One bus to islington subway stn or jane subway stn..
Like this lot of pockets exists. You need to choose. Please leave our Rexdale area as it is drug addiction area and also leave out somali dominated areas.

Looking for more news to help you.

je Suis Help !!!

Murali

Dear members, thanks for the encouraging words. Basically its a joint decision of ours to move. So, hopefully there are no conflicts and we are coming with a very open mind. My only initial concern is housing & schooling. My son is 6 years old. Any inputs on any favourable schools and connected areas will help for now.

If u want ur son to enjoy and excel then I would opt for Westhumber JMS coz 80% indian, excellent teachers and 97% EQAO results and best part is ur son doesn't hv to change school till he is in grade 8. Remember to get admission in this school, u hv to stay within 1 km of the school so if u r searching for basement or apartment thn put Westhumber JMS in search n put within 1 km on the left hand side.

My son got honours in this school last and this year. I want my daughter to go in this school but unfortunately we r 3 kms away frm this school and she has to go to local school which is also pretty good with 90% whites but teachers support whites more.

Schooling shd be least of ur worry coz u wl get admission same day n ur child can start schooling next day. No uniform and no books. so dress according to the weather n school bag n tiffin/water bottle. u hv to buy snow pant n coat, hat gloves and snow boots. 3-4 things to get admission. I.e address proof, landing papers, school transfer certificate and booster record of the child.

hope this helps little bit. Happy Journey and welcome to Canada once again. :)

My advice to you , is live here for 3-4 yrs , take CDN citizenship & PP for all 3 & then go back to Dubai. You will do better over there. You will earn more & save more over there.

By that time your son wiil be 10 . Then when he is 18-19 send him back to Canada for University education, he won't pay international student fees as he is a CDN citizen. Most gulf/middle east people come here just for that.

If Dubai was giving you Citizenship & PP & had good Universities for your kid after grade 12, you wouldn't be coming here in the first place. These are the 2 main reasons you are leaving Dubai for Canada..Citizenship & Higher Education for your kid.

Je Suis Dubai & Toronto !
