I told the teacher we do not want to expose our kids to these things at this age (he just turned 5), can you pl avoid such topics.

IMO, in the same context as when a boy marries a girl or vice-versa. Gay marriage is a part of Canadian society and culture, and sooner the kid gets exposed to it, better it is as he/she will not turn into a judgmental homophobic.

One cannot isolate/cocoon itself from one's surrounding. You cannot pick and choose where to be a part of Canadian society and when not. And if you do, you then cannot cry hoarse when somebody discriminates against you.

P.S. : I have no disrespect for any one who is L/ G ; its just that we are not on terms with this new evolution yet and need some more time to come at par.

It is safe to assume that it might take a person of your age a while to adjust to new reality, but kids whose brain are still growing might have no difficulty accepting the fact that a person is free to marry whatever gender he/she wants.

Excellent point ! Plus It is our duty not to confuse our own kids by thrusting our yesteryear's values on top of what they are learning, rather grow our mindset together with theirs as they learn stuff from their exposures. There will be time when you will have to correct them but those issues will be different.

Some interesting discussion!!

Question for Aashu - why do you say that this is not leading anywhere? I think it is exposing us to various views and some really nice thoughts. It is different that those who have responded till now have a difference of opinion than yours, but that does not mean it is not leading anywhere.

And my second question to you - which is also a reply to your question. Just imagine if the teacher/caretaker had responded that man can only marry woman and vice versa, and your child came home asking your "Why is it that man can only marry a woman and not a man?" what would your response be:

1. to explain to the child, (would you give your 5 yr old the sex education??) or
2. teacher giving wrong information to your child in context of Canada

???

@chandresh : I meant with regards to my conversation with TK, regarding canada is a good country or not...not leading any where....

Q2 : none of the above....

lastly.....people are writing there views here after days months....my reaction was instantaneous when this happened.

I still maintain, i did not like her telling my child .....

call it orthodox...conventional...non progressive...i m ok with that...

Hi Aashu, do you mean to say that you would not respond to your child's question at all? And how would you do that?
