any idea ??
does going on ei spoil my credit history ??
thanks
Sorry to hear about your fracture.
However you can still work with your fracture if you are able. For example, your left hand is fractured and you are in an office jobs where you answer only phones, you still can work. Also your employer is supposed to find you an alternative position which will enable you to work, if you are able.
In case, this is not the case, you can go on EI. You are eligible for 55% of your last drawn salary subject to a max of $ 423 (2011 rates) a week.
This will not affect your credit history.
I would suggest that if you go on EI, enroll in a food bank which will give you free groceries so that you are more comfortable during your EI.
Also most of the food banks have a habit of throwing their excess bread/ veggies on friday evening and as a desi, you can collect it and refridgerate it.
Hope this helps.

GET WELL SOON. Ask your Doctor to provide you with a letter stating your inability to do your regular work. (Some Doctors charge for the same ) Generally a fracture takes three to six weeks to heal and set, depending upon its complexity. Then additional time to rehabilitate. See the specialist who did the bone setting.
How much will I get? Currently.....
We cannot tell you exactly how much you will receive without having processed your application. However, we can tell you that the basic rate for calculating EI benefits is 55% of your average insurable weekly earnings. As of January 1, 2013, the maximum insurable earnings amount is $47,400. This means that you can receive a maximum amount of $501 per week.

I think OP should be eligible for short term disability benefits through his employer. Most of the company do provide this if you are working full time.
The experts can comment further into it.

Excellent point. This is only possible only if you have an extended health insurance paid by yourself or your employer.
Pregnancy is considered as a short term disability. Check if your fracture falls within it. Based on the terms you may be eligible for 90% of your salary.
This will not affect your credit score in anyway !

Your benefit and day off are dependent on company's policy.
Where I work there is no cap on sick days . You are sick means you are sick .
If an individual takes more than 03 sick days in a row , he is expected to produce a Dr. note . I am not quite sure but if it is over 10 days than short term disability can be claimed . If you are in good relations with your Manager than you can come to work for a day on 10th day every 10 days and get fully paid .
What kind of work do you do ? Is it possible to work over VPN ?
You really have to explore all opportunities .
I know fracture is far not fun .
Good Luck
