Desis,
I was worried about Canada political future shape after predictions starts coming that , Wildrose party ( a sort of tea party equivalent in US) is going to win election in Alberta. But in the morning while driving. I listen to news on radio. Glad to See they lose the election. I think liberal should capture center stage and get anger votes of Alberta to themselves. They seems to be too left in Alberta. Perhaps time for them To change their local leaders.

I wonder how desi from alberta feels

This could be the reason that Desi's are so politically illiterate here and politically corrupt back home.

When good people will ignore politics, the corrupt and opportunist will take over.

In that case, desis shouldn't complain about racism or discrimination at work or any other public sphere.

Consider yourself lucky that you get to live in a country where the democratic system is perhaps a bit more effective than the place you left. Atleast this country is not ruled by a puppet with one woman pulling a string and the other woman having her hand up his.....

Going back to original message, I am also glad that Wildrose lost the election. We don't want bible-thumping conservatives forcing their values on us.

I agree with Meghal. Just saying that I am not interested or not educated or its stupidity does not help. I think CDs have no idea how a little and just activitism can help them immensely. Granted Canada has less corruption in daily life, the biggest loss to CDs is in Government and semi government jobs. Somehow, I have observed that amongst immigrants, Chinese have highest share of the public sector job and not just because they can speak or write better English. I believe it is because they are more united and politically active. They always invite important politicians in their cultural and social functions, build relations and extract huge rewards. No wonder CDs are far behind in getting a good job.

Of-course, We invite politicians to our major functions and gatherings, but only when they are religious in nature. When it comes to the day to day life, or activism we are a big zero. For example, how many times we Desis gather at one place to protest the ever increasing car insurance rates? You talk to someone and they say, "Oh! We don't have time." But when it comes to all these useless activities (read Rajoana, Lehmber Singh deportation, etc.) or the stuff that has a little value, you see thousands of cars and motorcycles on Brampton and/or Surrey streets.

If you don't care, please don't whine when you pay for the higher insurance rates than anywhere else in North America, don't fret over the non availability of an efficient transit system, and heck, you should not even care about the high gas and airport taxes.

It's just a case of misplaced priorities for our Canadian Desi population.
