A recent RTI by a 10 year old girl from Lucknow has revealed that there is no evidence, records for the title of Mahatma for Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi.
The PMO, Home ministry have all reported ignorance on the same.
I stand vindicated about my statement that some people address him as Mahatma.

The article is about the title "Father of the Nation", not about Mahatma.

Neither 'father of nation' , nor Swami, Netaji, Loh-Purush, etc are registered or constitution enlisted Titles or related to a profession/qualifications. (like 'Sir' or Dr. etc.) . Thus there will not be any proof of conferring them through official certificate or ceremonially.
These are communal hear-says which are famously attached to personalities.
I am surprised that PMO and NAI started to look for it !! ?
Similarly as little master, master blaster or the Wall are not ICC approved Titles but there are players known by them , names attached to them by their traits by people who indicatively admire them as those names.
