Hello folks,
I have read through the discussion on the job tips. But I need specific advice in the field of biotech in BC. I am writing this on behalf of my spouse.
Most of the new jobs in BC show up on bcbiotech.ca/monster.ca. So, she has been applying to these jobs only with 0 response. She has an MSc Biotechnology from India (1st rank, 2060 on the GRE and quite a few academic achievements. Not that I'd like to boast but just to put things in perspective). But has been at home for the past 2.5 years (we have a child). As for experience, she did an internship back home.
We went to the YWCA for some career counselling but other than some good points on the cover letter and resume, it wasn't worthwhile. We haven't been into HRDC but have entered some info on their website.
WHAT IS SHE DOING WRONG?
CAN WE GO AND HAND OVER RESUMES IN PERSON? THE ADS WE SEE STRICTLY SAY NO CALLS AND SUCH.
There is a 2-week workshop on the latest techniques in industry and was wondering how good it would be to increase the chances for an interview.
The last option she's looking at is going to school this fall in US if the job picture is gloomy. She has admission to an MS program there.
Fellow CDs, your opinions/tips will be greatly appreciated.
