I am a postdoctoral fellow in the field of life sciences – Molecular Pharmacology to be precise with no in-vivo study experience and would like to keep it that way. I have completed my masters from India and PhD from Australia and have been a postdoc for 5 years in universities since the day I finished PhD. I am 34 years old and to further build my career I was considering Canada and US as these both countries have lots of research going on in pharma/biotech. I was wondering how much would a person with my qualification and experience would get in Canada/USA if I join and education sector as postdoc or a pharma/biotech company as a research scientist. Some real figures with before and after tax would really help.

I also wanted to know whether that pay will be enough to survive for a family with one child. By survive I mean live in a descent place with a car and all the basic necessities, a trip to India once every year and some savings for future.
Would also appreciate some information on job market for someone with my qualification and experience.
