One should never give the notice to the existing employer before securing the TN status. Once you get your TN, give about a week's notice to your employer. Never mind about 2 weeks notice - the employment in most of the states/provinces is "at will", meaning that you can quit or get fired at any time. I think Ontario also follows "at will" employment law(double check on this).
This is straight forward and a non-issue, no need to get confused. Get you TN and since it takes about a week to sort out your matters to leave for the US, this much time is enough to the existing employer.

Thanks dimple and cdn_dude for your advice, I guess that's what I will have to do.
Could you guys also suggest what would be a good POE (out of the 3) near Buffalo, Niagara Falls ON to apply for the TN? Also, what should be a good time of the day to apply, I was thinking to leave around 9:00 - 9:30 from toronto and be there around 10:30ish for my TN on a weekday, does this sound okay?? Thanks.
