This particular statement makes me laugh 
"The immigrants, mostly young men from poor villages, say they are fleeing religious and political persecution," the report said adding that most of the immigrants say they are from the Indian states of Punjab or Gujarat and have "common surnames" Patel and Singh.
Gujarat and Punjab are two of the most prosperous states in Gujarat. And the idea of Patels being poor (there are always exceptions) or facing religious prosecution in Gujarat is just ridiculous. I am surprised that American officials would fall for such excuses.
I know the case of a Gujarathi lady currently in Mississauga who had divorced her husband in USA got her PR in Canada under compassionate grounds.
She cried in front of the lady judge and got her PR in Canada.
She even declared that she will be persecuted in Gujarat if she goes back home.
It works everywhere if we have the right strategy and Lawyer.
