Hi CD friends,
Just curious to know how have you dealt with such problems I am narrating below.
I got a small bag from Tommy Hifliger in sept, did not use it till November, when I wanted to use it I noticed , those guys at the store had not removed the security tag from the bag and that may create an issue with me , I did not keep the invoice as I had no intentions to return the same, I did track the purchase from my credit card , armed with the statement of credit card , I went to the store, the mgr @ the store is asking me for my proof of purchase, which he has the right to.
The guy is also asking me as to why did it take me so long to get that noticed, this question did ignite my frustation as we have to prove our innocence and prove ourself inspite of the fact that the error in the firsr place is of the person at the counter who was supposed to remove the same while delivering.

End of the day the guy did remove my tag after seeing my credit card statement, but I did feel very frustrated .

Please share your similar experiences.

I have 2 similar experiences:

1. Bought a pair of shorts from Tommy in the US. It had a tag inside, which I didn't realize. I wore the shorts in Canada and we were out shopping. Upon leaving the store the sensors beeped, we didn't have any thing in our hands. Same thing happened at the next store, that's when I realized it was a tag in my shorts. I felt so stupid. :D Bottom line came home and removed the tag.

2. Bought a pair of pants which had a tag and the cashier forgot to remove it. We went back after a few days and got it removed. Don't remember the store but it was a brand name store. No questions asked, and we didn't even produce the receipt.

I guess experiences vary by store and staff.

Just out of curiosity, what would happen if we removed the tag ourselves at home, in such a situation? (I am a Desi still back home and do not know what the tag does if one did NOT take the item back to the store with the tag on - hence this question)

It depends on the tag. Some tags have dyed ink inside the capsule and will burst all over, thereby identifying the shoplifter. If it is just a bar coded tag, if it is not "cancelled" by means of a purchase, it might trigger an alarm at the door.

So, if it is a dye capsule, better not remove yourself unless you have that gizmo to do the job.
