It is kinda strange.. we are one of the G8 nation and our child poverty rate stands at 16.5%. Even after collecting bone crushing tax Government do not have enough money to eradicate child poverty from our great nation..still I can not understand where our tax $$$ are going .. we require $18 billion annually to eradicate child poverty from Canada.

Surprisingly poverty rate among aboriginal people is 52.1% and 42.7% among visible minorities ( we can be happy, atleast we are better than original Canadians )

16.5 % child poverty is consistent with the 16% poverty rate of canada as you had mentioned .

the math seems right too ...out of about 4.5M poor people 1.1M are children..
