Recently, I shopped at 3 different well known desi grocery stores (2 in Brampton near Sportsplex, One in Mississauga). I was surprised to see that all the 3 times the amount of my bill was a perfect integer.

Today, I was looking at the register and realised that the cashier rounded up the amounts to nearest .50 or .00. When I pointed out, she corrected after a bit explanation.

Has anybody noticed or experience a similar situation? If the price is shown as 2.50, I do not mind paying the full amount, but rounding up each and every article price is tantamount to cheating.

Wow very good observation, will check next time and update here. BTW can you give the name+address of the stores, just to be aware of practice.

So if you buy an item for $1.59, what do they charge you $1.50, $1.60 or $2?

Most of the items are priced at x.49 or x.99. I do know what they do in case of items like vegetables which are sold by weight. But having a perfect integer 3 times in a row is too much of a coincidence.

I am not sure whether it would be a good idea to name the store. But two are located near South Fletcher Sportsplex in Brampton and are popular among desis. You connect the dots.

After reading on CD I became carefull when it comes to billing in Indian stores.Sad but that is true.......almost everytime I pay there is a overcharge in some form or the other.

I offcourse talk to them and they say simply say "sorry" and correct the bill. But I don't know if we can do something about this to stop this practice.

The location is SW corner HWY 10/HWY5

Products bought were weighed. I have a postage meter to verify weights and within one gram on either side. (No breeze- wind or eddy currents)

Green chillies. Cost $2.99/lb cost $3.75 Weight received O.88 lb (1.254 -0.88 = 0.29 ) 30% loss approx.

I go there because the products move fast and are fresh.

I stopped going there, since the last visit, rather than report them to the department of weight and measures.

We had a similar incident at a gas station. We had to push car to the pump as we ran plum out of gas at the entry ramp to the station. It should have started as the ramp was inclined in my favour. But after filling, it said that I had bought 60 liters of gas. Where as the Maker of the car says I have a 55 liter tank. So, I lost five liters in this transaction. Now I don't go to the Gas Station any more. Location Airport Road. TO.

So watch for the slime bags.

Freddie.
