can anyone share their experiences with orthodontic treatment for their kids. looks like my son may need braces. what would be the cost of the treatment and the duration. would it be practical to get that done in India and get the follow up done over here.

views shall be appreciated.

thanks.

Hi,
I did for both my diaughters. Cost for braaces is aprox. between 4000 to 6000 CAD. You have to pay 35% at the start of the tratment & balance in Equal Monthly installment. If you get it done from India, No orthodontist will touch that. Choice is yours.

Why not?
Are there not many Indian dentists here in the GTA. Were they not educated initially in India.
I am sure that many dentists in the GTA would touch up / work on Indian braces for sure.
Is the cost $ 4K to 6K per child or was it for both.
It is high time the GTA dentists reduced their prices. Come on. These kind of work is not rocket science. There seems to be a "high" cost as soon as it comes as healthcare. This is not dental surgery or things like that.
I used to be treated by a couple of Sri Lankan origin dentists in the GTA (who did take you medical - dental - insurance and they seemed like fair honest people. I even asked them to treat my teeth with the max. allowable money from my dental insurance but they have never called me.
.

TK: have you ever had braces??

As far as you or I are concerned, dental work IS rocket science. We dont have specialized training in knowing what specific corrections are required on what specific teeth to obtain a desired result (ie shifting of the teeth correctly).

Iceberg: the original Orthodontist who does the fittings etc will be the best one to continue to do regular adjustments etc. As someone suggested an Ortho in Canada may not wish to touch somethign you had done elsewhere. They may not want to be held responsible for the original ortho's work which may result in over or undercorrection.

Do you have extended medical or dental benefits with your work? They usually cover a portion of braces.

I did have some of my teeth worked upon else where , re worked here ...

It does not sound quite right morally and medically that doctors start refusing re working on wok done else where ..... esp when its an Immigrant based country .

For sure I would get dental work done in India if I am due for a visit and follow it up here on need .

thanks for your response. i thought as much as the orthodontist here would not like to touch work started in india. as the requirement is not as urgent i am going to check with the dentist here in canada also. the only reason this came up was the treatment is free for me in india. the health plan does cover but only a part of the cost.
