Thank You for having me on this board.
I have recd an immigrant visa for Canada, will be shifting in May / June to Vancouver (BC).
I intend to start afresh over there as an Insurance Agent / Broker.
Currently i am a self employed licensed Insurance Agent for a General Insurance Company (ICICI Lombard- Lombard being the canadian insurance co which is a part of Fairfax Holdings) and a specialized Health Insurance company.I have been doing this for the last 4 years from 2006 onwards.
I had following queries :-
1 - Is there a licensing procedures for BC for general insurance & life
insurance ? Is there any website that can provide a detailed explanations
.......
2 - Can this be done as a part time as a free lancer to begin with to get the
feeler of the market or do i have to be working fulltime with a Senior
Agent / Broker before being independent?
3 - I specialize more in employer-employee Insurance(corporate sales) ... hope there'll be a
prospect to make a decent living from this proffession ?
4 - How much will it cost me initially for the licensing procedures till i
actually start making calls and produce results and ofcourse the timeline
for the same ?
5 - Is there a heavy investment required to be a licensed broker ?
6 - Would you suggest to get my graduation and the Insurance exam that i
cleared in India verified by an Agency like ICES or WES ?
I would really appreciate and be grateful if some of the members here can guide me with their experience.
Thanx a ton
I would suggest that you send a PM to one member on this board who goes by VJ. As I understand from his posts he is in the same business and should be able to guide you.
Overall, I do not think it is all that difficult to get in this particular field. You do need licensing and once you are through with that the options are pretty good.
