Town homes which have a good condo corp are well maintained and usually have lower fees. If the condo fees range below $150 p.m., I would go for that. The condo fees would include building insurance, exterior maintenance and sometimes water. Now that sounds reasonable to me as I have seen condo town homes whose roofs have been updated within 15 years or windows replaced or garage doors replaced. This is a part of the monthly condo fees. Consider doing that in your own semi or detached. You may end up paying the same. Condo town homes which are very old and have high condo fees should be avoided.
