Check this link for people posting their PR tracking status - 2 ppl who applied under the new rules go their PR within 189 days and 214 days.

Thanks much for this info.
This is exactly what I heard and got interested in this process. Since I fall in one of the skilled labour category under fast track process, it should take 6-12 months.
My only question or rather confusion was - Is this dependant on my H1B visa or is it irrespective of that.
I suppose, the answer is - It is NOT dependant on my Visa rather on my nature of work and other points.
Please correct me if i was wrong.
Again, Thanks all for your help and support.

regards.

Suggestions anybody?

Canadian immigration is NOT dependent on your H1B visa and will not factor in the CIC decision. If you fall under the 38 categories listed, make sure that you do the online points checker at the CIC website. If you are making the cut, apply ASAP as rules and policies may change with a change in Govt.

Hi I read all these things which ppl are telling.

If you still have your H1B visa and you are eligible to work in USA.

then you are Eligible to apply P.R from Alberta.

you will get your P.R in only 8 to 12 months.

Also you do not meet requirement of 38 Occupation.

Man you are eligible for fast track Immigration in Alberta.
Check out here.

Just read this.

and you dont have to apply from delhi.

your file will go to Alberta Immigration Nominee Program office first and then to CIC.

Now a days for 38 occupations criteria has changed as well. everybody has to send their file to Sydney, Nova Scotia for Initial Assesment then it goes to your immigration office like Delhi.

So at the end I will suggest you to go to web link

http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/immigrate/srsvisaholder.html

you are eligible for IMMIGRATION IN CANADA. Just Apply through Alberta Showing Intension to live there then go in Canada no question asks.

Have a good luck.

take care.

Hello Mr Taneja,

I can speak from experience.

a. You can get a PR visa in 8-12 months.
I have a friend who is on H1 in US and to be prepared he applied in October last year and got the visa landed here, stayed for 10 days went back and now if any thing happens he can come to canada to work.

b. There will be lot of ad's etc, You just have to work slightly hard, go to the website cic.gc.ca , look at the skilled worker criteria , file the necessary paperwork. If you have worked in the US as a software programmer, like my friend above , you should get the visa in a year.

Also if there are some docs missing the consulate informs you of these .

Other CD's may share their views.

Hope this helps
RJ

hi,

Due to recession both canada and USA don't have job opportunities. This is plain truth. since you lost your job, you must be aware of this fact. frankly speaking even if you try, you won't get job in US nor in canada, I have atleast 8-10 known people, who has 10-12 year US experience with canadian citizenship have been trying since last 6 months for job are still jobless.

If you are financially sound (i.e rich with good bank balance say $50000 to 100,000/-) then you would get visa (immigration) in no time because canadian Govt, wants you to bring your funds and spend it in canada, to run their country. Be ready to be jobless for atleast 6months since, you don't get job in canada (or for that matter in all commonwealth countries), unless you have their education, experience and above all references. Be mentally prepared to be jobless till recession is over. My sincere advise is stay in India till recession is over and reduce your cost of living.

If your visa is stamped, the you have exactly one year from medical date to land. you cannot sit and apply from India. You need canadian address,SIN,PR and a mobile or tel no. to apply for the job.

good, you like the US lifestyle then imagine US as India and Canada as Pakistan, I mean neighbouring countries. I hope you get my point. (read Toronto star.com everyday and you will know canada in a month's time).

It is very tough to get job even in software unless you are in really competitive field and your very very lucky. (I have found even if you are lucky, the moment you step into canada, your lady luck deserts you in no time) :D

I can give you some software professionals contact no. and you can get information from them.

hope this helps.

This information WAS correct few months back. Rules have changed many times since this program started. Initially timeline for processing provincial nomination was 5 months. Then they increased it to 8 months. Now it is 12 months. They have removed all software related NOC's from the eligibility list leaving only 0213 - Software Manager. Recently they have removed that also. There are many people who spent 500 to 2000$ for lawyer fee, time, effort etc and are just waiting for nomination since Jan 2009. (Remember, once you get nomination, it is just one step done. You have to apply for CIC, Medicals, Passport stamping etc which will take 6 to 8 months). You can check all this in the above link itself.

Here is a different view. There are numerous job opportunities. The problem is there are thousands of applicants for each of those.

I have 12 yrs of US experience plus US degrees and Cdn citizenship. I am in one of the worst industries/field one can be at this time - Manufacturing. I recently lost my job and it took me 4 months to secure 2 offers after 6 interviews.

I had 1 interview in US, 4 in Canada and 1 in India. I had 1 offer in India and 1 in Canada. I accepted the offer in Canada. Not a single interviewer in Canada said anything about lack of Cdn experience/degree/etc/etc. That tells me US qualifications are well accepted. Within Canada, 2 interviews were in ON (GTA and Windsor), 1 in Regina, SK and 1 in Steinbach, MB.

So, in short, an experienced individual can find an opportunity. What is required of the individual is the inclination to open up the search wider than the local area where he/she lives (I opened my search in the US, Canada and India) and the inclination to venture beyond related industries and not just narrowly focus on what he/she has been doing in the past.

Four to six months to find a job seems typical depending on the career level. Higher the career level, longer it takes due to limited openings.

Since supposedly IT/software industry is doing better than manufacturing (relatively speaking), there are good chances for the OP to find an opportunity.

Some more numbers.... I sent a total of 212 resumes; 166 in US, 38 in Canada and 8 in India.
