We are thinking of redoing the cabinet faces and countertops in our kitchen. I like white for the cabinets but from the resale point of view is white a wise choice or should we go for the dark oak/pine look?

I have seen that clients seem to prefer darker wood shades. White is least preferred unless the layout, backspalsh & appliances trumps the colour.

Thanks! That is what I suspected. But the latest issue of HGTV all have white cabinetry, and I too find it very soothing compared to dark wood in the kitchen. In your experience is the preferance for dark wood particular to any ethnic community (Desi or not)? Also, don't dark cabinets and dark countertop make for a very dark looking kitchen (especially when it isnt too large?). Any further input will be greatly appreciated.

You are absolutely right about the appearance of small kitchen with darker shades. You could go with rosewood colour in that case as chocolate shades may not work there. Also, one needs to keep in mind the counter top shades/material (preferably granite) and back-spalsh.

I would not hesitate going to Home Depot or other building centres and seek their suggestions. You may bump into a helpful employee whose suggestion may be extremely valuable to you. Take the dimensions and pictures of the kitchen with you.
