Just a small correction, for new immigrants CTB is based on world-wide income in the previous year, not just income in India ;)

...my 2 cents... Please refrain from making such statements on a public forum. It reflects back on the forum & website

Gopai Pai,
Welcome to Canada.
I would like to reply to your posts in quite a while the following way :

1. You can never sue the Govt. on this and win the case. Already a Sri Lankan in Alberta filed a case and lost. You must remember that the people running this country are decendants of the same people who ruled us in India. They make rules that benefit them.

2. It is too early for you to acheive sucess. You came in May and you are expecting a job in August. That is too rosy. With the best luck, you may find entry level jobs in the next summer. Remember that in this country IT professionals and Finance people are the ones who can find jobs without much struggle. All others have to struggle.

3. Your CCTB is based on your previous year's world income. Since you might have declared your world income which is high, you receive nothing or very less CCTB. For your son aged 3, he IS ENTITLED to get $100 a month of universal care (irrespective of your income). Some one gave your the wrong news. Also Canada has lots of money. It is the only nation among developed countries which has the lowest debt.

Tip : if your this years annual income is less than $25,000, then from July 2010, you get around $800 a month for your 2 children through CCTB and universal care (+ $500 + $500 a year as national suppliment). If your income is upto $38,000 a year, you will get say $100- $200 less a month from the above stated income. Also you will be eligible for subsidy in daycare owing to your low salary for 2009. This can help you put your both children in daycare while you look for a job.

4. There are resources like the food bank, $1 breakfast in IKEA which can help you to save some money while your struggle in Canada. Food banks give more food (in front of you) to Non Visible minorities than to visible minorities but then we have to be satisfied.

5. Never ever discourgae a person from migrating to Canada. we need their tax dollers/ health tax / rent income / food income to support older Canadians and us. Who then will clean toilets, work in TIm Hortons, Take OSAP loand and study in colleges/ univ's, work in labour jobs, deliver pizza, clean roads (in a non union capacity) if no immigrant comes? How can I stay in Indian (after 20 years) and collect my CPP/OAS when no immigrant can come and do hard work / suffer in Canada?
Always fool immigrants to come to Canada and to think positively and discourage them going back and living a good life. It is good for people who make Canada their life.

6. When I migrated in 2002, The Canadian govt website was encouraging immigrants to came to Canada saying that many people are going to retire and that all jobs will go to Immigrants. There was and even now is some statistics that Canada is going to need people to fill 1 million jobs by 2010 (I saw it first in 2002 and I saw it till 2008 when I stopped looking). In 2003 suddenly, this message was taken out of all govt. website and they put on a more cautious and safe note saying that you might need to struggle if you come here but that eventually you will get a good job. if you donot get it, then the govt. will say that you did not do your job search properly or that you were too negetive minded.

7. Be careful of whom you share information with. There are people in this board itself who will take each of your posts and tear it into shreads and insult you or redicule you. also (as hiren said) be careful of who you mingle with or invite to your home or share other people's information with. I personally have been cheated by 1 or 2 CD's who milked me and left when they knew that I would be of no use to them in the future.

8. Tip : The best living people in Canada are those who donot work and exploit the social welfare system of Canada. For example, if you are a family with 2 kids, you get the same income/ lifestyle wether you make $30,000 a year or $60,000 a year. if you make 30K a year, all your CCTB, National Suppliment, Subsidised daycare, no health tax, less tax, GST/HST credit will make it equal to what it would be if you earn 60K. So informed people know how to live.

9. People come to this country thinking that free education (up to std. 12), free healthcare, free libraries, less corruption, wide roads will help their children. But the reality is that without a proper job all other things become a waste. No one tells them about the pathetic healthcare here, nor the daycare fees, or the cost of medicines, the horrible cold which lasts for 6-8 months a year. Vandemataram has started a nice thread which exposes the public schooling system here.

All the best for you guys to find a job.

Hope all this helps. The choice is yours.

Peace by TK

Good useful info.. other than some condescending parts where u say we should encourage people to migrate here... It is better to give a honest picture.. most people will not listen anyway and will try to migrate here and learn the hard way..

When you say your income i presume you mean family income right?

I can sense the frustration but come on be honest with yourself

- Economy is bad all over. People are losing jobs in India too. My relative in India who was a senior manager lost his job and for 4 months couldn't get another position. Jobs in Canada will be harder

- Immigrants have come and made it rich here. Immigrants have and will come and will not make it and trash out their frustration.

- If an immigrant does not get a job, blame it on discrimination. When an immigrant hires an immigrant from his country, support it as he is supporting the community. Many times an Indian loses a job to another Indian. The first will still blame it on discrimination.

- Apart from the economy not getting a job can be based on many things
- Lack of the right skills?
- Proper communication skills. Many Indian speak English, but still can not communicate fluently at a professional level with Canadians. Many can.
- Trust worthy references? Many Indians come with fake degrees and fake references and then the Indian who comes with a genuine reference blames it on the gora for not knowing what's genuine and what's now. And be honest we all know people who lie blatantly on their resume.

To Tamilkuruvan .. I think your posts are one sided. To gopalpai .. wish you all the best. You can never know when things change for you .. can all happen in a second.
And unlike India at least here even doing a labour job or a small part time job has dignity unlike in India where labourers are treated like trash. Compare a truck driver's life here to a truck drive in India.

If there are no job opportunties, then canadian Government should not stamped our skilled visa.We left everything at the age of 40+ and you know in India, nobody gives you job after 40 and who is to blame. I blame canadian Government and immigration for putting us in such situation. on top of it, they have refused us child benefit and universal benefits for our children who 7 and 3 years old giving explanation that, we are not eligible. when enquired, people are telling canadian Government don't have money.

Well certainly you can sue the Canadian Government, if you have any written contract signed by the Government of Canada and you promising you a good job. If you don’t thn you can’t sue the Government. You cannot sue or blame anyone for your own decisions (bad or good).. In this country if you are eligible for any benefit no one can stop you to avail that, and if you are not eligible thn even PM cannot make it available for you…. It’s plain and simple.

There is no such thing as too early to achieve success..gopalpai...keep persevering it is something that requires a different sort of strength. Hopefully you have registered with an immigrant serving agency as suggested in a previous post as they are the governments way of helping you out. Without exhausting all options it would not be a good idea to sue anyone.

you have a lot to be excited about...think about this..you have entered this country at age 40 which is considered young! especially here..there is no ageism or age limit when it comes to talent. Unfortunately this perception does exsit in some other countries.

You will get to see your kids grow up in this amazing environment. Most immigrants keep making trips back to india to see their parents. your kids will have you here by there side - when they get married and have their own kids and wont have to worry about sponsorship etc. Just keep at it...is my advice you both seem talented and things always work out for those who try...

Be patience and everything will be alright. we had already gone through this phase and now are we very happy- we too came from the Gulf and had better life overthere--- in the beginning i was earning $6 per hour (just for a month job) then move to $29000 per year job and now i earn $42000 per year and hubby was earning $10 per hour doing labour job and now he make $60,000 per year means $102000 per year. He did take courses and work 8 hours per day then go to school. So life in the beginning is a bit hard, All the best.
