One thing to remeber that once the child is born , he / she becomes a cdn. citizen and after the delivery, any charges for the baby is free and covered under OHIP.
Canadian health charges are hefty like say $3000 for a simple delivery and may be $600-$800 a day for the bed charges.
They canot refuse to treat the mother for delivery. However they can turn you away from the hospital if you are in minor labour pains and unable to pay. Guru's can advise you better in this respect.
Peace by TK

Your best option is to contact Great West Life and try to get coverage via Welcome Plan. There could be some issues as this is a pre-existing condition but there is no harm in in discussing this matter with GWL.
If you are not covered under provincial insurance, then hospital will charge you for the services provided by the doctors separately and for the services provided by the hospital separately.
Day rate for the ward is about 3000 $/day. for semi private add about 100 and for private add about 100 more.
Doctor fee for the first visit is about 165 $ for the first visit but will be less after that. This is only the doctors fee and hospital will charge about 700 $ per visist.
Let me know you email ID and I will send you the complete list.
These rates are for NS and rate in your province should be similar.
